Workout of the day : Plank Plank Plank …Short and Quick Burn…

Blog, Exercise, Workouts

This is a great challenge for yourself to test overall core (abdominals, lower back) as well as shoulder strength. It takes very little time to complete and you can progress as you get stronger by adding number of sets! It is a short workout BUT don’t be fooled by its simplicity to execute. It is a killer, especially when you push your limits by continually rotating through planks without breaking..

Workout Of The Day – Progressive Circuit

Blog, Exercise, Workouts

Let’s get right to the point. This is a killer workout. I made  my bootampers last week and as much as they may have hated it, and me at the time, they all loved it and said it was one of the most complete workouts they had done in a while.. Try it out. I’d suggest doing it with a buddy or a group as it’s pretty challenging and takes some time to complete (about 40minutes) but is well worth the effort in the end for the results it brings!

Recipe – Spicy Avocado Chicken Sandwich

Blog, Recipes

Summer is here… That means so is grilling and patio partaaay time! This is a tasty and easy burger pretty much anyone can make at home, either on the grill or in a pan. I’ve come across similar recipes which asked for a ton of mayo, so I decided to come up with one that is just as delicious (even more in my opinion) yet much healthier. The addition of the dijon and sriracha ads bite, flavour, and keeps the amount of mayo down, making it also much lighter.. perfect for summer 🙂

Upbeat Workout Playlist

Blog, Music

Last week, fellow personal trainer and founder of Hive Health Media health blog, Doug Robb posted an article entitled “Angry Workout Music”. I then asked if I could share with him, and the rest of you of course, some upbeat workout music! Through years of teaching fitness classes, and just training for myself, I have covered a wide range of genres- rock, house, pop, 80’s ..etc. BUT the common theme across the board is the upbeat rather than angry nature of the music (to each his own of course..) especially when looking for tunes to motivate you through a tough cardio workout. I thought many of you could relate and/or use some of them for your own.

Robb kindly shared my playlist on his blog. Check it out: 25 Awesome Workout Tunes

If you like those, check out the list below.
Now go get yourself moving!! 🙂

Asian salmon & mango salad

Blog, Nutrition, Recipes

Salmon is one of my favorite things in the world- flavour AND nutrition wise. Not only is this delicious fish filled with healthy omega-3 Fats, (improve brain, heart and overall cell function), salmon is a great source of protein, which is crucial for anyone who exercises regularly in order to feed those working muscles- the heart included of course! Salmon is very versatile in the way it can be prepared. For this particular dish, I was inspired by a Jamie Oliver recipe (also called Asian salmon incidentally). My version is more nutritionally dense; I omitted the noodles and added more veggies. In short, I made it healthier and simpler so that anyone can cook it up even on a busy weeknight.
Give it a try,  you won’t regret it 🙂

Circuit Training – Beginner to Advanced Levels

Blog, Exercise, Media Collaborations

I recently had the privilege of contributing a full body circuit routine to a great new health and wellness site called Lifestyle Videos. I think these exercises will help push your fitness to the next level in the new year.

Here I take you through Circuit Training. Applying circuits — which is a series of exercises back to back, is both time efficient and requires little space or equipment.

I show how beginners to advanced fitness levels can target core, upper and lower body in this series. Exercises include: the push up, straight arm plank, forearm plank and squat.

Once you master this circuit you can find more on health, wellness and fitness on lifestylevideos.com or find me at Justgetfit.ca

5 Tips for choosing healthy bread at the supermarket

Blog, Nutrition

I know not everyone has the chance , or money to buy their bread at health food stores and most of us definitely don’t have time to make our own bread. Yes it’s definitely a fact that most pre-packaged bread in grocery stores are filled with tons of preservatives and are not what I would call “healthy” by any means. But, if you do a bit of research and read your labels, you’ll be able to find a few diamonds in the rough!

Workout (Spinning) Playlist

Blog, Music

A couple weeks back one of my regular spinning students approached me about getting the names of some of the songs from that spin class. I mentioned how I often share my full class playlists on my 8tracks music page (an online music sharing site) which is accessible to anyone. She said she had checked it out and liked the idea but the only downside was that for a given playlist, each song plays one at a time with a limit on the times you can skip a song; the idea being to encourage the listener to stream through whole playlist from beginning to end. So I understood her frustration if she wanted to see the playlist as a whole and look up the songs that interested her most.
Sooo… she suggested this:
